Negativity Can Be Fun

"Snowy Pine"
Colored Pencil on Ampersand Pastel Board
8 x 10"

This piece was a challenge and a lot of fun (my favorite combination when doing a drawing) because I chose to do it on a dark green Ampersand pastel board. So, all of the lightest lights you see are drawn in. Essentially, the whole drawing is of negative space.
While working on this piece not only was I happy with the challenge, but I was also reminded that no matter how much I dread the winter coming on, there is a beauty in it. I will look closely for it this year.

Wow! I have been paying attention lately from the bus and T, with the darkness of Winter, the lights and shadows. Just like my Snow picture on my blog, taken at night, of all the ways you can draw from light to dark. I really miss the white on black pictures I did in school.
Now, the only tiny thing missing from this wonderful piece is a Red Bird. They are always true and never migrate away from cold winter, they stay with us through all the elements of Life.

OH, this is beautiful, Rhonda! I love the blues and greens together....is that a hint of purple I see too? One of my favourite colour combinations.
