Spent much of the day watching the innauguration with my young son reminding him that he was seeing history being made.
But I found time to finish this month's VSD (Virtual Sketch Date). As in my past VSD posts, I decided to try something a little different that the way I usually work. This month I did a pastel underpainting and finished with colored pencil on a tan-toned Ampersand pastel board.

Amazing how I can almost see into the Clementine! Really neat work. I work with oil paint but enjoy looking at other artists' work. Thanks for posting this wonderful piece.

ReplyDeleteI have not tried pastes under color pencil as yet. Do you think they can be framed without glass as can the color pencil on patel board?
I see you and Blue Bird Hill have been hanging out in the same places :-)

You did a fabulous job with this. My husband was looking over my shoulder and he said "Oh, WOW, that is really good!" then my son had to see it, so I turned the laptop towards him and he said "She is good! You had better really work hard to make yours as good." and my husband said "Yeah, take your time so that yours turns out that good." WAY TO RAISE THE BAR!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you cropped the image. The pastel undercoat with coloured pencil is brilliant. (Mine will be all coloured pencil).

Regina: I used Prismacolor Nupastels. Very friendly with my Prismacolor pencils.

ReplyDeleteDoes the combination of Prismacolor Nupastels and Prismacolor pencils mean that you can layer either on either? I've been playing around with pencil over pastel this week and obviously if you've got waxy pencils then you can't go over them with pastel. I was trying to get round it with watercolour pencils, but I don't have many of those and especially not a decent green!
